Education Consumers Value Added Award Winners

A team of Eaton teachers, administrators, and Director of Schools, Mr. Wayne Honeycutt, traveled to Nashville on May 4 to receive recognition for the school’s outstanding value added test scores.  Out of 760 elementary schools in Tennessee, Eaton ranks an impressive #7.  The setting of the awards was the Supreme Court Chamber in the State Capitol.  Commissioner Timothy Webb, along with Education Consumers Foundation representatives presented principals with a certificate, banner, and a check — ours was $2,000!  It is a tribute to our excellent teachers, support staff, students, and parents working together that make this achievement possible. 

Four members of the Eaton faculty head to Nashville on May 4 to be recognized as one of the top performing schools in the state of Tennessee.  Out of 760 elementary schools, Eaton’s value added scores place the school at #7!  Commissioner of Education, Tim Webb, will be on hand at the State Capitol Senate Hearing Chamber where the awards will be handed out.  More news to come. 

The first week of May is when Eaton PTO members go to great lengths to show appreciation to our fine teachers.  They have developed themes for each day:  Muffins on Monday, Treats Tuesday, Wishful Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, and Flowerful Friday.  We certainly do not want our parents to spend a great deal of money — just a simple gesture of appreciation will “make your teacher’s day.” 

Thank you to all the local businesses that contributed gift certificates for daily teacher prizes. 

April 7 at 6:00 is the next Principal’s Night In.  I will host a snack supper accompanied by a talk on the standardized achievement tests that are fast approaching.  I know from parent surveys that many of you have questions or misunderstandings about TCAP.  This informal setting is the perfect time to get all those questions answered.  Child Care will be provided.

It is with extreme gratitude and appreciation that the entire staff and student body of Eaton Elementary thank our community for the economic support through our Rocket Romp fundraiser.  Even in these very lean economic times, our students and parents rallied together to raise $45,115.15 for our school!  That is truly amazing. 

This year’s proceeds will go directly into Eaton classrooms with every teacher receiving $400 for instructional supplies, nine additional Promethean Active Boards added, and supplements to our special areas such as art, music, physical education, and spanish. 

When people ask what makes Eaton a great school, the answer is simple.  We have great teachers who love our kids and we have parents who support the school.  THANK YOU!

We are excited to finally have all our boys and girls back in school.  Our enrollment is up slightly from last year, and we have the largest fourth grade class in the entire county!  We encourage you to get involved at Eaton.  Our new SAFE traffic patrol has certainly helped maked mornings more bearable and the traffic flow much quicker.  We need you to help with this project.  We also have several projects that will occur throughout the year — Rocket Romp, playground upkeep, and community service projects.  We want your help and input. 

Currently, our PTO is in the midst of its annual membership drive.  You can join for just $4/per family member.  As many of you know, PTO supplies Eaton with many resources including instructional supplies, the latest technology, and playground equipment.  So, join with us to help our Eaton Rockets Soar!

2008 Technology FairThis year we are hosting our fifth annual Technology Fair for students.  We encourage parent feedback to help us tweek the categories and produce a fair that best benefits student learning.  Any ideas?  Projects are due by 9:00 AM Tuesday, February 26.  Awards will be presented at the PTO Meeting, 7:00, February 28.
